The Young Turks and the New York Times are reporting false news about the One Fair Wage organization claim. No government agency has ever mandated ServSafe training. That would be against the law. There are multiple food handler training programs that are accepted by government agencies are approved by ANSI for accreditation. All The Young Turks and the New York Times have done is give One Fair Wage organization free advertising for their Food Handler program they launched after the article was published. But One Fair Wage organization course is not accredited at this time and will not be accepted by government agencies to meet food safety requirements to hold a food permit.
